PAGE Grants (Promoting Active Global Education)

Created three years ago as a way for NORVA to support global education in the Cleveland Municipal School District, the PAGE Grants help classroom teachers carry out specific projects that will enhance intercultural understanding. To apply, click here.

2008 PAGE Grant Award
This year’s PAGE Grant went to Lena Pogrebinsky, a math teacher at Lincoln West High School, where more than 71% of the student body is bilingual, and many of those newly arrived immigrants. The project, “Exploring Mathematics through World Cultures,” has bilingual students preparing and presenting explanations of different mathematical topics. NORVA has provided the funding to purchase the equipment necessary to carry out the project. In keeping with the concept of bilingual education, the students will connect the concepts to their cultural backgrounds and will give Power Point presentation in English and then in their native language. The goals of the project are to increase understanding of the diverse cultures of the student body on the part of students and teachers, to increase students’ mastery of mathematical concepts, and to provide further peer tutoring through the taped presentations.
